Stranger than Fiction

Someone once said to me concerning one of my photographs, "That is so Photoshopped!" When in fact, it is one of my least edited images. This photo (seen above) depicts one of the little natural wonders of our world. Sometimes, when a tree is just waking up from winter, the sap in the top of the tree enlivens itself much more slowly than the sap in the bottom of the tree- consider, for example, when you come inside from cold outdoors and warm up. Your extremities will be the last to get cozy. It's the same with trees. Except where we work from the center out, they work from the bottom up. The result of this re-awakening process was a tree that was very alive on the bottom half and completely dead on the top half.

I become irked when people accuse my photography of being overly photoshopped. It's true that I do edit my pictures to make them look good, but I have an ethical code when it comes to editing pictures. I would never fabricate something completely unreal and then call it a photo. If I add anything more than a frame to the picture, it's no longer a photograph. It's a photomanipulation. I've also come across similar accusations with my picture Reaching. "So, did you just put that star in in photoshop, or what?" Honestly, people. It's easier to just make the star myself and tape it to the wall. Why on earth would I go to the trouble of finding some picture of a badly cut out star and then cutting it out and photoshop, putting it in the picture, and editing it to match?

Stupid.

Anyway. Just a thought that came to mind. You'll hear again from me later.

(I don't mean to write twice a day, I've just had an abundance of time this weekend. That will change once school starts again on Monday.)

And just because Alex made it look fun-

Yay! The Ting Tings! People seriously thought that you photoshopped those pictures that much?! That's LAME! Haters.

I think I feel the same way as you do about photoshopping stuff. I edit colors and stuff to make it look better, but I wouldn't seriously edit something and let people believe I'd just snapped the photo.

Oh man, I love that song. The music video is awesome!
